terms
last updated october 19, 2026
the short version.
your work stays yours. you let us show it so people can find it.
when a piece sells, the collector buys it from you, through your own stripe account. painttwits takes 2%.
if a piece arrives damaged or isn't what was shown, the collector gets their money back.
the rest of this page is the longer version. how we handle personal information is on the privacy page.
who we are
painttwits is run by lucas blanco. "we" and "us" on this page means painttwits. you can reach us through the contact form.
for artists
your work stays yours
you keep the copyright and every other right in your work. by adding a piece to painttwits, by email or on your gallery, you give us permission to show it, free of charge, only to run and promote painttwits:
- on your gallery and its exhibits
- in the painttwits feed and on the map
- in painttwits' own posts of new work on bluesky
- in the preview image when someone shares a link to it
that permission ends when you delete the piece or your gallery. posts already made on bluesky stay up unless you ask us to remove them, and we will.
what you promise
- you made the work, or you have the right to show and sell it.
- it doesn't copy someone else's work or break the law.
- what you say about a piece (title, size, medium, condition) is true.
- the email address you apply with is yours.
what doesn't belong here
work that isn't yours, sexual content involving minors, work meant to harass or threaten people, and anything illegal. new work passes an automatic safety check before we post it to bluesky, and some work won't be posted there. we decide who is approved, and we can hide work or close a gallery that breaks these terms. when we do, we'll tell you why unless the law or someone's safety stops us.
fees
a gallery has no setup fee and no monthly fee. when a piece sells through painttwits we keep 2% of the sale price. stripe charges its own processing fee separately. paid extras, like using your own domain, are priced on the site and you pay before you get them.
selling
- nothing sells from your gallery pages. a piece is for sale only while it's in one of your published exhibits that is running, with a sale price you set for that exhibit.
- you are the seller. sales go through stripe connect, straight to your own stripe account, and the collector's purchase is from you. you're responsible for any sales tax and income tax that applies to you.
- collectors can buy from the united states and canada only. shipping isn't charged separately, so your price includes it.
- ship promptly and well packed, and mark the order shipped with tracking.
- your return policy is up to you, but if a piece arrives damaged or isn't what was shown, you refund the collector in full.
- refunds and card disputes come out of your stripe account. painttwits' 2% isn't returned when a sale is refunded or disputed.
leaving
you can download all your artwork as a zip from your settings and delete your gallery at any time, once open orders are shipped or refunded. a deleted gallery is hidden at once and kept for 30 days, so the link we email you can restore it. after that it's removed for good. we keep order records, because the law asks us to.
galleries
a gallery account follows the artist terms above, with the gallery in the artist's place: the gallery confirms it has each artist's permission to show and sell their work, credits the artist on each piece, and is the seller when a piece sells. how and what the gallery pays its artists is between them; painttwits isn't part of that arrangement.
for collectors
- you can browse without an account. an account lets you save work.
- when you buy, you're buying from the artist. payment is handled by stripe; we never see your card number.
- a piece is held for you for 30 minutes while you check out. if you don't finish, it goes back on sale.
- returns are up to each artist, so ask them. if a piece arrives damaged or isn't what was shown, you get a full refund. if an artist doesn't sort it out, tell us and we'll step in.
- buying a piece gets you the physical work. the artist keeps the copyright, so you can't make and sell copies without their permission.
for everyone
use it fairly
don't try to break into accounts or galleries that aren't yours, overload the site, scrape artists' work in bulk, or pretend to be someone else.
copyright complaints
if you think work on painttwits copies yours, use the contact form and pick "dmca / takedown notice". tell us which work, where the original is, and how to reach you. we'll look at it and remove work that infringes.
no guarantees
painttwits is a small project, provided as it is. we work to keep it running and your work safe, but we can't promise it will never go down or lose something, so keep your own copies. as far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect losses such as lost sales, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid painttwits in the 12 months before the problem.
changes
if we change these terms, we'll update this page and the date at the top. for changes that matter to artists, we'll email you first.
