the short version.
we keep what we need to run galleries, the feed and sales. we don't sell it and we don't show ads.
artists appear on the map a mile or more from where they really are. exhibits appear at their venue.
to have your information deleted, ask us.
what we keep
artists
- your application: name, email, city, a link to your work and what you wrote.
- your work, its details, your gallery profile and exhibits.
- the location you set for the map.
- your stripe account id, so sales reach you. your bank details stay with stripe.
collectors
- your email, and your name and picture if you sign in with google.
- the work you save.
- your zip code and town, if you give one, to show work near you.
buyers
- your name, email, shipping address and what you bought. the artist sees your name and shipping address so they can ship it.
- your card is handled by stripe. we never see the number.
everyone
- a login cookie, and a 30-day cookie noting which artist's link brought you here.
- google analytics on painttwits.com and on every artist's and gallery's painttwits site. it counts visits and which pages are viewed, not what you type or pay.
- server logs with ip addresses, used to keep the site working and stop abuse.
the map
artists are pinned one to three miles from the location they set, in a direction that stays the same, so the pin can't be narrowed down to your door. galleries and other venues are shown the same way unless they choose to show their exact address. exhibits are pinned at the venue's real address, because people need to find the show. photo location data (gps) is never used for pins.
who else sees it
we use a few services to run painttwits. each sees only what it needs:
- stripe: payments, and artists' payout accounts.
- google: sign-in, and analytics.
- resend: sends and receives our email, including artwork you email to [email protected].
- cloudflare: serves the site, and runs the automatic safety check on new work.
- bluesky: painttwits' public posts of new work, with the artist's name.
- openstreetmap: turns exhibit venue addresses and application cities into map positions.
- discord: private alerts to the painttwits team about new applications, including the applicant's name and email.
- google sheets: a private log of contact form messages.
- our web host, which stores the site and its database.
we'd also share information if the law requires it.
keeping and deleting
- artists can delete their gallery from settings. it's hidden at once and kept for 30 days so it can be restored, then removed for good.
- collectors: there's no delete button yet. ask us and we'll delete your account and saves.
- we keep order records after an account is deleted, because tax law requires it.
you can also ask us what we hold about you, or to correct it.
changes
if this changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
